Discourse Reviews

18 Best Discord Alternatives 2020 | Expert Reviews
Discourse comes in a couple of flavours. You can self-host it yourself in which case the software is free, and you simply need to sign up for server space, or you can pay Discourse for a hosted-for-you option, though self-hosting is a lot cheaper the premium option takes care of the technical side.
IndieHackers: Best forum software
I used Flarum when trying to get a community set up for my product (ended up abandoning it to revisit when we have a larger customer base). It worked fairly well and I enjoyed it but it's definitely beta and unless you're fairly tech savvy it's not quite worth the setup / maintenance. Lots of config changes, crashes, huge issues with plugins, and some features missing. I'd...

Vanilla mentions (2)

  • Request: does anyone has a good menu hiding app?
I have been using Vanilla (the free version), but it doesn't always allow me to collapse the menu whenever the Menu of the app takes a lot of space on the left example:. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • I have WAY TOO MANY apps w/ menu bar icons... help!
This isn't the solution you're looking for, but I've had similar issues, so this might help. At first I bought the Vanilla app. They have a free version. I forgot the difference between the 2 but it was worth it to me. It basically hides everything you put to the left of it. And you can set a shortcut key to toggle it open and close if you do want to see the rest of your menubar items. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago

Discourse mentions (4)

  • Please stop closing forums and moving people to Discord
I have seen a lot of companies, sites, non-profits move to Discourse[0]. It is customisable, low-cost, and has a lot of features which makes hosting a forum really easy and effective. This is a nice alyernative to hosting forums yourselves and Discord. [0]: https://discourse.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 12 days ago
  • Self hosting a very light weight forum(software recommendations)
As these things go, "light weight" is always in the eye of the beholder... But I've been running discourse (discourse.org) pretty well for family forums / etc . It claims to need 64 bit OS, 10G space and 1G ram and 1 - 2 cores. I'm running it on a 4G ram, 4 core VM without issue. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Plotting without bitfield is slower, NOT faster
You know damn well I am required by law to only discuss things on a https://discourse.org site 😉 .. I tolerate Reddit because it is good for breaking news 📰 and racing to see who can post the absolute funniest possible image response.. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Chia Network Discord??
We can also set up a https://discourse.org as well. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
