Go to rent.com, trulia.com, and try to rent from a person who owns their apartment/condo vs. Renting from a management company. The owner may use rental management, but they are the ones to call the shots and ultimately make final decisions. This SF based startup called RentBerry. The premise is that it creates a platform where potential renters can bid on a rental property so whoever pays the highest gets the place.
