Best free Linux firewalls of 2020: go beyond iptables for desktops and servers
It also has a surprisingly decent GUI, and offers a number of optional packages in its repository to allow OpenWRT to be configured in a variety of ways for all kinds of uses. Despite all its flexibility, OpenWRT is still one of the least demanding distros, and is fast to run.

It's great to see so many different alternative Router OSs. I have a pile of routers, more than a dozen, which have stopped being updated and just basically abandoned by their manufacturers, well within their functional life, and many of them expensive, £100+ "pro home (wifi) routers". For some time I used a variety of OpenWRT(LEDE)[0], DDWrt[1], Tomato, PFSense[2], OPNSense[3] and others, because CVEs in my... - Source: Hacker News / 11 days ago
  • Request: short cut to log into router and toggle on/off WiFi access
I wonder if app limits would do the trick on iOS? Also, I recently re flashed my wifi router with OpenWRT which is an open source router firmware. Sounds really complicated but it was dead easy. I suggest asking in the subreddit r/openwrt/ what may be the best way to do this, but since its basically running linux you could run a script on the router or maybe there’s already a plug-in that suits your needs. - Source: Reddit / 24 days ago

  • OpenWRT can't resolved DNS
I'm using my OpenWRT as a switch and a DHCP server with all 5 Ethernet ports and both wifi interfaces in a LAN bridge. The OpenWRT is working along side a Century Link DSL modem/router (my gateway). I do not have WAN interface setup on the OpenWRT and both the OpenWRT and Century Link DSL modem/router share the same IP scheme. I run a Pi Hole(my DNS server) on a Pi zero W. With the DHCP server, I was able to... - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • Google sent me an email addressing changes to ad policies. I'm not an advertiser but they're making it clear that they're removing everything firearm related and retaliating for violations.
I use a router that's flashed with OpenWRT (https://openwrt.org/) firmware and an adblock plugin along with it so I don't have to worry about DNS settings on my individual devices. I know a lot of people have good experiences with Pi-hole (https://pi-hole.net/) but I've never used it myself. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
