Shout out to the VLSub add on that let's you download subtitles from vlc. A bit janky but works 90%+ of the time. Source: almost 2 years ago

For all us purists, who prefer soft subtitles and the flexibility it affords, it gets somewhat trickier. Subtitles exist for almost all movies and television shows on the internet.
