Was looking for an alternative for OneNote, so I found it here. I like how simple the interface is and the UI is very simple. It's good for what it is, but there is no sorting/topic system which makes it difficult to find specific notes for specific topics. Other than that, it's a good note system.
I love DocFetcher! I discovered this gem of a program when Windows stopped supporting string searches in word processors other than Word.
Based on our record, Simplenote should be more popular than DocFetcher. It has been mentiond 76 times since March 2021. We are tracking product recommendations and mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you identify which product is more popular and what people think of it.
I'm still happy with Apple Notes for its integration with all of Apple Apps, easy sharing with family members, etc. I have tamed it more as an ephemeral and quick Notes App. The notes that starts there are usually transferred to a more permanent and organized Plain-Text setup[1] (currently guardian-ed by Obsidian). If I had to replace Apple Notes, I'd look at either one of these; - https://simplenote.com -... - Source: Hacker News / 8 days ago
Write things down! All the weird things and ideas, put them into categories and write them down. This categories can also have a to do list. Use some kind of calendar. Try to not read the news on the internet too much. Use a RSS reader. - How do I get my data OUT of this thing, if I decide it isn’t right for me? C) If you’re going to go down the “unlike other note-taking platforms” route, it might be valuable to explicitly help people make the comparison in terms of features/approaches/architecture/trade-offs etc. How should one compare this against [Obsidian](https://obsidian.md)? In the past I used the beautiful Zoho Notes. It's good but I experienced sync issues sometimes. OneNote is good but I hate the UI. StandardNotes is nice, but very expensive once you want the paid features. SimpleNote OK too, but too basic imo. Source: 10 months ago
I've used Simplenote for years. Clutter free, distraction free, and actually free - it works in a browser and my phone so I can write on any device, anywhere, online or when I'm intentionally disconnected. Source: 10 months ago
I use https://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html to index and search large repos of docs. I use Papermerge for my digital file cabinet though. DocFetcher is good for searching an existing repository of files. Source: about 1 year ago
As they state, it is crap-free, free forever, cross-platform, portable, private (local only), and indexes only what you need. You can also set minimum and maximum file sizes to index. See https://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html. Source: about 1 year ago
What I'd recommend is setting up a digital and/or physical technical library. Download any useful documents, books, standards etc. and store them in a clear, concise folder structure. Then create an index of the library with a tool like DocFetcher. (Think of it as Google for your technical library) This should make it fast and easy to find the relevant information when you need it. Source: over 1 year ago

I use Outlook for e-mail and calendars. I use Evernote to store my notes. I also have a folder in Dropbox called "docs" where I store TXT (and others like DOCX and PDF etc) files for tasks/projects like the cisco firmware update example. I use DocFetcher (https://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html) to perform search on the stored notes in TXT / DOCX / PDF / etc. Source: over 1 year ago
