I've heard about Screeps which is close to what you describe: https://screeps.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
I have tried Screeps in the past, and I'm not a huge fan. I really like Stone Story, but they do not have an easy way to take your saves across multiple platforms -- you have to manually import/export your save. Source: 8 months ago
-For JavaScript, my advice would be to introduce coding games. That way it's more fun and the environment would be set up better (less worrying about deep technical errors). The two games that come to mind are Bitburner (free) and Screeps (free offline/paid online), though they both have their own learning curves and require actual coding; so for a 9 year old YMMV greatly. A good, existing example I'd like to show you is Screeps: https://screeps.com/ Personally, when I'm in the mindset of playing that game, I can't help but come back to my bot every 30 minutes to see if it's performing well. When I see that it's doing something strange, I take notes and can't stop thinking about possible solutions. I'm a designer claiming to also know a bit of engineering. Proving it by building a programming game – https://yare.io – was very useful in all interviews. And I hope that in the current AI boom, building https://meoweler.com will prove at least tiny bit useful when trying to get into AI jobs. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
I have been working on a programming game https://yare.io but kinda burnt out on it. The last 5% of polish/onboarding/marketing is so hard to get through. Would happily join the group to hopefully rise my spirit a bit! - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
Cool. This reminded me of another project https://yare.io/. Source: about 1 year ago
The motivation behind my side projects has been mostly having an entertaining outlet for learning new things. One of these is https://yare.io that taught me plenty about building something end-to-end. From concept, design, front end, back end and failed marketing efforts. Despite 0 revenue, the experience itself is greatly rewarding. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
