What's the criteria you'd need to be met for "something comparable"? Because I'd say running our own https://saidit.net/ site would be pretty identical. Source: 10 months ago
I love IRC but it serves a slightly different purpose. It isn't threaded and it sacrifices permanency for instantaneousness. In my opinion, a forums and chat rooms compliment each other. Saidit is one good Reddit alternative that implements IRC. It's based on Reddit's code but with some modifications. Every page has an embedded IRC box specific to that subcommunity. For Reddit alternatives, it looks like https://saidit.net/ (https://github.com/libertysoft3/saidit) and https://phuks.co/ (https://github.com/Phuks-co/throat) could be viable alternatives. I would like to connect to the school wifi, however they still block certain web requests like quora.com, and nordvpn.com to name a few. For some reason my phone has no... Source: about 1 year ago
Consider substack, too. I subscribe to four substack blogs, ranging from $3 to $10 a month. This is split between author and substack. Also check out medium.com and quora.com If you don't make money now, you'll at least pack your writing resume. Source: about 1 year ago
I have a Space on quora.com that I administer and its fairly good sized. I'm not trying to one up anyone. It was mentioned if only to pointing to emphasize my view, action, and responsibility. Source: about 1 year ago
