QField for QGIS might be a bit more popular than Rockd. We know about 10 links to it since March 2021 and only 8 links to Rockd. We are tracking product recommendations and mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you identify which product is more popular and what people think of it.
Under normal circumstances, I'd suggest that this post is better suited for somewhere like /r/geology, but they're closed right now. I'm not personally that familiar with South Dakota geology (maybe someone else will chime in), but the first place to start is with a geologic map. Get Rock'D. It's a very good and free NSF-funded App for Android or IOS. I assume you have a good GPS on your phone...mine is much better than any of my handhelds, and I do GPS/GNSS for my research. Source: 11 months ago

Also FYI you can easily make projects in QGIS and take them in the field (with QField) to do data collection and other fun things, even where there's no cell signal. Source: about 1 year ago
