  • How to make fancy road trip maps with R and OpenStreetMap
Really informative post on how to do this "by hand"! I use https://trips.furkot.com (which is free) for this kind of trip planning. It is fantastic to determine how much stuff you can fit in a day, taking into account when you want to start/end your day, driving time, stops for food, time at any road-side attractions, overnight stays, ticketed events (to ensure you arrive on time), etc. It's an... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Which of these routes is the best for a California road trip?
Route 3 makes the most sense. Keep mind some of the landmarks you listed for each city are far apart (ex, The Getty and the Getty Villa, Hearst Castle to PG). CA is huge and can be boring at some sections. I use this site https://trips.furkot.com to plan out my road trips. It'll give you an idea of how far the drive is and what accommodations/sites are near. Source: about 1 year ago
