  • How do I switch from qwerty to dvorak fast?
If you can type the pangram the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog without looking at your keyboard, then you know where all 26 letters of the alphabet are on the Dvorak layout. That means that you no longer have any need for the beginner websites such as typing.com or typingclub.com or ratatype.com and can instead move onto the second of the two phases of learning to type. The second phase is one that... Source: 9 months ago
  • What websites are best for getting better at typing?
There are sites like typing.com, typingclub.com, ratatype.com, typingstudy.com and keybr.com which are all designed to help people learn to touch type. Their purpose is to take someone who has to look down at the keyboard and "hunt and peck" at the keys in order to type, and get them to the point where they don't need to look at the keyboard at all when they type. • Will touch typing get me faster?
That's great. That means that you will be able to pick up proper touch typing really quickly. It's going to feel really slow at first. It's going to feel really awful. But it will get better quickly. ratatype.com is pretty good, but to be honest, all these sites and pieces of software are very similar as there is only so much that can be said about learning to type. • my friend never heard of touchtyping and still manages to pass me.
Whilst your friend may not have been aware of the "home row" technique taught on typing.com and typingclub.com and ratatype.com your friend might have already been able to type pretty quickly using their own less conventional method. Source: 11 months ago
  • i skipped ahead and cheesed the final lesson of typing club using two fingers. is typingclubs home row style worth learning anyway?
If you read any typing guide or watch any video on the subject, the first thing thta they all say, and the first thing that they all agree on, even if there's a whole bunch of things they don't agree on, is that you should follow something like typing.com, typingclub.com, ratatype.com or keybr.com to learn to touch type with all your fingers and so that you never have to look down at the keyboard. • Show HN: I made a game to improve my typing speed
It's gotta be fun, and Typing for the Dead is a good one. https://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/246580/ More recently though, there's https://monkeytype.com/ and https://play.typeracer.com/ which are fun little breaks during the day. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • really struggling with picking up touch typing and feeling horrible about it.
Check out these words. These are 10 words from the English 1k word list on monkeytype.com. Source: 4 months ago
  • Been at this for 6 months, need advice
Try a small change and sometimes a drastic one (like dropping a column or row) and mash keybr.com and monkeytype.com until it feels natural, or not then revert. And if I revert I often try again a few weeks later... Source: 4 months ago
  • What is your average typing speed?
Average typing speed when typing a >50 word long quote. If you don't know your average typing speed, you can test yourself at https://monkeytype.com/. Source: 4 months ago
  • Keyboard Shortcut Database Website
I had a really useful website bookmarked in the past, which let you enter a keyboard shortcut and see what programs used that same shortcut. It was really helpful if I needed to create a keyboard shortcut that I knew wouldn't conflict with Windows or any other programs I used. I feel like the site's color scheme was dark gray and yellow/orange, similar to monkeytype.com, but I could be misremembering. Source: 7 months ago
