I downloaded Winrar a couple months ago before switching to 7zip, I was reviewing my apps on my windows PC but im scared and confused now, did I download fake Winrar? there's been the Google Ad link problem going recently so I wanted to ask, I downloaded my winrar through here https://www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=0 They've been telling me that win-rar.com is fake and I might have some spyware now, I ran a little... • WinRAR Trojan Detected
Yesterday I recently factory reset my PC and when I got most of my programs back I was going to download WinRAR from win-rar.com but when I download WinRAR I scan it with VirusTotal and it detects 2 trojans. Is it a false positive or was I using my PC with 2 trojans before? Source: over 2 years ago
  • Different MD5 hashes between rarlab.com and win-rar.com
Hi, I'm setting up my new pc after a few years and it confuses me that the top result on google search, win-rar.com, serves files that turn out to be different from the ones from rarlab.com even with the same release numbers and file size. Which of these is the actual official website? Some people recommended to get 7zip instead but I prefer WinRAR's friendlier UI. Source: over 2 years ago

  • Quite OK Image is now my favorite asset format
LZ4[1] intentionally compresses worse than Deflate—where Deflate is LZ77 with Huffman, LZ4 is just LZ77. It’s “we’re saturating Gigabit Ethernet and have some compute left over” compression, not “we need to squeeze our backups as much as possible” compression. If filtering+LZ4 does better than Deflate, then you’ve chosen the filter well. Curiously, for some kinds of binary serialization a good filter in... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Stretch iPhone to Its Limit: 2GiB Stable Diffusion Model Runs Locally on Device
It doesn't destroy performance for the simple reason that nowadays memory access has higher latency than pure compute. If you need to use compute to produce some data to be stored in memory, your overall throughput could very well be faster than without compression. There have been a large amount of innovation on fast compression in recent years. Traditional compression tools like gzip or xz are geared towards... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

Just looked it up [1] > LZ4 is lossless compression algorithm, providing compression speed > 500 MB/s per core (>0.15 Bytes/cycle). It features an extremely fast decoder, with speed in multiple GB/s per core (~1 Byte/cycle). [1]: https://lz4.github.io/lz4/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

  • F2FS compression performance impact
I found this interesting dataLZ4 HC (r101) -9) increases transfer speed by about 22%, while only losing a 10% performance on decompression. That's a 12% performance increase overall, not bad! Source: about 2 years ago
