  • Refactoring a serverless application to use Step Functions third-party API call integration
I use the OpenWeather API to receive the current temperature data by providing the latitude and longitude coordinates as query strings in the request. A Lambda function invokes the weather API and sends the current temperature value as a custom metric to CloudWatch. I then graph the temperature values on a dashboard and activate an alarm when the temperature sinks below zero degrees Celsius. - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago

  • remote temperature solution
I used the SHT-30 Mesh-protected Weather-proof Temperature/Humidity Sensor with a max temperature tolerance of 125 C / 257 F. This is wired to a Raspberry Pi B+ (existing already in a nearby shed for sprinkler control). The pi reads the temp/humidity data at a rate of once per minute (also gets the outside temp from the openweathermap.org api) and writes it to a database in the cloud. Source: 6 months ago

  • I 40 vs I 80?
I'd recommend using windy.com if you want to check weather conditions across a wide area easily and quickly. That would be a good resource to check daily weather conditions to see if I80 is a safe option. Weather conditions can change quickly, and honestly there might be some days where I40 has worse weather than I80 since these things can be fairly localized. I'd say just check conditions before you leave and... Source: 4 months ago

  • Good Bay Area microclimate weather app?
The Windy app lets you choose from 5 models. It's also usable at https://windy.com . Learned about this app from KPIX meteorologist Darren Peck, who sometimes uses it during his on-air segments. Source: 7 months ago
  • Why are air quality "readings" of Winnipeg so hopelessly wrong so often?
Here's a reading Aug 15 at 6:19pm. Well the air outside absolutely sucks today. Filled with smoke. Going on windy.com and clicking air quality, then PM2.5 we see a huge cloud coming down from the north and of course we have a north wind today. There are 2 huge fires in northern Alberta. https://www.windy.com/-PM2-5-pm2p5?cams,pm2p5,55.553,-100.327,5,m:fcAadg7. Source: 8 months ago
