    I use Lubuntu on a 1st gen i3 4GB DDR3 laptop, so you'll do more than fine. There are some nice themes at opendesktop.org for a better experience (just don't expect any miracles). Source: about 2 years ago

However when I run the eclipse installer it fails which I suspect is because of the decryption.
