I have an Obdlink LX. I use the Torque app for Android and the Obdwiz app included with the device. It is compatible with just about every protocol and there is a huge aftermarket with the Torque app where you can get custom PID'S. All my vehicles are GM though. Actually OBDEleven (https://obdeleven.com/) is a specific VAG type OBD2 device that allows you to do other things then just code scanning. Like suggested in this thread you can do maintenance changes, as well as other things like long coding adaptions, and other extras that a typically ELM327 or the average OBD2 /OBDii device will not do.
