Back in the late 90's you had tools like Netobjects that Novell, and later IBM, bought. PowerBuilder pitched itself as a RAD tool. Then you had the hybrids like Delphi that used drag and drop but generated code you code change directly. Source: almost 3 years ago

Use a native editor. VS Code is IMHO awful. Someone mentioned Sublime which is fast and has some nice features, but its non-native UI is IMHO ugly and clumsy.
