Based on our record, Mixxx seems to be a lot more popular than Rivendell. While we know about 65 links to Mixxx, we've tracked only 4 mentions of Rivendell. Mixxx is excellent and has pretty wide hardware support. FYI the "limited" functionality of Rekordbox can be hardware unlocked with some Pioneer controllers. https://mixxx.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
There are quite a few DJs that use Ableton for DJing (or hybrid sets). Of course, Ableton wasn't made with DJing as its main function in mind but you totally can use it for that purpose and (with some tweaking) do everything and more that would be possible in a dedicated DJing software (like Traktor or Rekordbox or Mixxx). I’ve used Mixxx a little bit and have been surprised how capable it is. It’s an open source project and is free to download: https://mixxx.org/. Source: 11 months ago
Mixxx (you already mentioned this; it's certainly a great piece of free software to test the DJ waters with and works with a lot of gear). Source: 11 months ago
Alternatively, you can also use Mixxx with the S4 MK2. Mixxx is free. But instead of a Traktor control vinyl record, you'd use Serato timecode instead, as stated in the docs. Source: 11 months ago
Rivendell - Linux based and way more powerful than RadioDJ. Only attempt if you’re really technical. I’m in the middle of building a system to see if I like it better than RadioDJ. It took me weeks to sort out audio issues (and I’m fairly technical). Source: about 1 year ago
Due to being open-source, you *can* just obtain the Rivendell software suite from http://rivendellaudio.org/ and run it. But, unless you're a Linux pro, you will want a pre-installed system + some form of basic technical support as you learn the software. Source: over 1 year ago
If you have some Linux knowledge or are willing to learn, there is nothing more powerful than http://rivendellaudio.org/ in the "free as in beer, free as in freedom" radio automation space. Source: over 2 years ago
I have radio station running Rivendell (http://rivendellaudio.org/). Per Rivendell's documentation, all the machines are running CentOS 7. Overall the system works great. Linux-powered Air studio + production studio + transmitter-site backup, all sync'd off a central audio/db server with failover. Sweet! Source: about 3 years ago
