Awesome, those are good genres to start with too. Really you could go with Godot, Unity, GameMaker, Unreal engine, etc., like people have said elsewhere. Godot is awesome. I'll also put in a plug for my favorite engine for hobby development, the PICO-8 and its open-source cousin, TIC-80. It's really not that bad. The core language remains the same, so the rest is just reading the docs and looking at examples. Going from one Lua-based game to another is a pretty simple jump compared to going to completely different modding languages/ecosystems. Especially the ones that use complex editors.
