This browser add-on successfully helps you customize facebook and block some of its annoying features. Meanwhile I use it to keep tabs on friends, family, former colleagues, and others, for "free". It remains useful as a social utility for me. Source: over 1 year ago

Its unpleasantries can be mitigated some with a browser add-on, FBPurity, that lets you selectively hide annoying aspects of their interface (videos, ads not already blocked by a decent ad blocker, games, etc.). That makes it tolerable to keep using. Source: over 1 year ago

On the pc, I use fb purity, it has an option to block stories, plus it also blocks sponsored posts, and many other facebook annoyances : https://fbpurity.com. Source: about 2 years ago

This developer was also harassed by Facebook, with legal threats, etc. You can't even type in "fbpurity.com" in Messenger (try it) it's banned -- among other things they censor. Source: over 2 years ago
