Food.com VS BBC Good Food

The first time I do a recipe, I follow the recipe, but I make a small batch. If you find a recipe at food.com, you can scale it down to 1 or 2 servings. Then you can decide if it needs more or less of something. For me, I like more pepper and more garlic than some recipes call for. Try looking at OAMC (Once a Month Cooking) recipes online. I know there's a specific subreddit too, and you can use those two search terms (intials and spelled out) on sites like Allrecipes and food.com. I keep coming back to the BBC Good Food website - they have a broad range of good recipes. For an app, I really like Paprika. I currently have it only on Android, but it comes in about every other flavour out there. Rather than having an extensive onboard recipe bank, it allows you to import recipes from other websites (or add them manually) and save them in your own personal collection.
