Sure. I personally prefer other Whois providers over ICANN (there are lots of Whois providers, including GoDaddy). I use domaintools.com because they show more data and I like the way they lay it out, including a visual country flag for the website host location. I've been looking around for a selfhosted tool where you can add domains on monitor. When the domain get available it should notify me by mail or something so I can buy it myself or for a client.
