Criticker.com is fairly accurate with its predictions, but you’ve got to play with the filters a bit to improve the recommendations (it tends to favour older films & documentaries ). Not the prettiest site, but functionally great. Source: over 2 years ago
I found this website called icheckmovies.com. This site has a bunch of both official and unofficial "Best Of" lists (Academy Award, IMDB, 1001 Movies to See Before You Die, Sight and Sound polls, etc etc etc). Some days I would pick a list that looked interesting. Some days I would just look at the "unchecked movies" list and sort by "number of official lists." Then I'd pick something to watch.
