There is also Boxy SVG (https://boxy-svg.com) which combines both designer and developer oriented functionality and uses SVG as its native file format. Unlike Illustrator/Sketch/Inkscape it can also create and manipulate SVG animation elements (https://boxy-svg.com/blog/21) - a very powerful feature which is now supported by all major browsers. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
What I did for my instance (aipub.social) was I took the original logo file from github (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/tree/main/app/javascript/images) which is "logo-symbol-wordmark.svg" and pasted the SVG url into this online SVG editor, https://boxy-svg.com/ that allowed me to edit the existing one to my liking, in my case I just wanted to change "Mastodon" to "AIpub". This keeps it the same file... Source: 10 months ago
Thanks!! Agree 100% re the edges. I've actually tried that and failed to make it look nice. I'm very new to this and I only have Inkscape & BoxySVG, since I use a Chromebook which doesn't work with Illustrator. I'll keep trying, though, as I fully agree with the concept. Source: over 1 year ago
We suggest that you create a diagram or map with a vector-based drawing program. A popular open source option is Inkscape, and proprietary options are Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Boxy SVG, Canvas X. It is also possible to draw with the vector drawing tools in a office program, like Excel, PowerPoint, LibreOffice or OpenOffice, which all save vector elements very similar to r/SVG file format and can... If you have a computer that can run a graphics program, you could do digital art and comissions. There are a number of free programs out there - Photopea is free but online only, Medibang works on Windows/Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android and appears to be free across all platforms. There's also GIMP which is more of an image editor than an art program, and Inkscape and Boxy SVG which do vector graphics, though the... Source: over 1 year ago
I think vector magic is the current state of the art: https://vectormagic.com/?=20 No one seems to have tried to leverage deep learning yet; either because they haven't thought of doing so, or it just wouldn't be worthwhile. Image to SVG's are an inherently deterministic task, with not much room for the noisy error of most deep learning models like stable diffusion and such. I think algorithmic approaches... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
The best pixel to vector is still vectormagic. They are on it since at least 2009 and have a native desktop app. I am not affiliated but just a bit flabbergasted that they are still so far ahead. https://vectormagic.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
This is the most impressive raster to vector I have seen: https://vectormagic.com Vtracer doesn't seem to do as well. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
I'm a graphic designer and Vector Magic[1] still is my gold standard for vectorizing logos. Expensive but worth it. [1] https://vectormagic.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
When it comes to converting PNG images to SVG, Vector Magic stands out as a reliable tool with a long-standing reputation. While Vector Magic is not free, its automatic vectorization capabilities have made it a go-to choice for many designers and developers. It’s worth noting that it also supports other raster image formats like JPG, BMP, and GIF. With a few simple steps, you can convert bitmap images to... - Source: dev.to / 10 months ago
