A lot of the ones that sound like shit are like that because RUST can't really handle playing the percussion tracks from the MIDI. You can make them sound a lot better by using something like Anvil Studio to remove the drum tracks. Source: about 3 years ago
In other words, you do not need to embed this functionality into your editor, you simply need to have your editor communicate with this backend in order to have the basic MIDI input working!
