I ended up using Alugha and couldn't be happier as they offer everything that I need and dream of.

Offtopic: a while ago the mastodon web interface changed so you had to enable javascript to see anything. I stopped reading mastodon links. I've just noticed that the server will cough up the post if you add "/embed" to the url.
