Be very careful, scammers tend to target newer accounts. Talk to them as much as possible and ask a lot of questions up front. Don't do any work until you've been paid at least partially. You can set up and direct them to a commissio (a platform that is very secure and protects both artists and clients). Source: about 1 year ago
Just to add to this, from the perspective of an artist working on building their own brand/fanbase: I feel like listing myself on some of these sites would be antithetical to my goals. I simply don't want to be another drop in the ocean. I want clients to want a piece from me because they associate quality and a one-of-a-kind style with my brand, so I could charge a premium. Listing myself on commiss.io would do... Source: over 1 year ago
Commiss.io (charges 5% or pay subscription for 0%)-> Was decent as a marketplace and for artists to manage their commissions, but the founding team has kind of fallen apart so there's only one staff member left who seems to be overwhelmed in running the site and goes months without responding to the community or dealing with support requests (including artists not completing work, people can't give refunds without... Commiss.io though... yeah, that actually looks like direct competition for what I have in mind. The layout I'm envisioning is a little more professional, a lot more searchable, and less like a profile page, but there's enough overlap that I can see this not working out. Source: almost 2 years ago
Commiss(dot)io is good for tips and setting up commissions and Subscribstar is a good all-rounder. Source: almost 2 years ago
Feline and canines work best but willing do anything! Example and linework above, icon will be same shading and quality as first img. Payment will be done by commiss.io ! Source: about 2 years ago
Img will be fully rendered/ and paitned over, and adjusted according to ur character ref (-: first time doing one of these, payment will be over commiss.io. Source: about 2 years ago
I knew a couple of artists use https://commiss.io/, but the fees are higher. It's reported that you're not _supposed_ to use this site for NSFW, but they don't go out of their way to enforce as paypal does. Source: about 2 years ago
I would figure, but I can try to scrape up enough! And I'll be sure to look around :] Thank you! I didn't know commiss.io existed. Source: about 2 years ago

I've seen some platforms out there that try to make things easier/better for artists and clients, namely sites like Etsy, ko-fi commissions, and commiss.io providing a middleman as a trusted platform for the client, as well as infrastructure like terms of service and protection against chargebacks for the artists' end. The downside is they take a small cut of the transaction, on top of paypal/square/stripe fees... Source: over 2 years ago
I've heard good things about commiss.io!! It offers support for both the artist and the buyer. Source: over 2 years ago
As for the actual advertising, I do it on basically every social media platform that I have. I've had the most success on twitter and tumblr. Take advantage of trends/tags intended to give a spotlight to smaller artists. I'd stay away from fiverr as I've heard bad things about customers being demanding and the pay being terrible. I've also heard a lot of people have been using commiss.io but I'm not sure how that... Source: about 3 years ago
