Hi everyone, I'm a beginner catan player. I play exclusively 1v1s against a friend but they always beat me. (Currently playing 1v1s on colonist.io to practice) I know the basics of the game like all the cards and ways to get points. I've tried the ore/wheat strategy and the 2:1 port strategy but I don't know which strategies to use when and how to use them effectively. I always seem to fall behind in one aspect... There are many other commercial projects similar to this (colonist.io landover.io etc). None of them are open source though. This has been done in the past extensively (see freeciv.org, or Terasology, or 0 AD etc). Source: over 1 year ago
I have whitelisted "colonist.io" on both tracking related Firefox extensions, I use since a long time – no classic adblocker, one is DuckDuckGo privacy, the other is "I don't care abot cookies". So I get served ads on the site, all worked well for weeks. But now it says I have to "disable abblocker"... (Downloading another browser is not an option for me.). Source: over 1 year ago
You seem passionate about it, so you should definitely keep going > Hasbro is litigious > I’m not going to charge without getting sue I don't think this is a thing ? There's this website which is a web Catan game ( https://colonist.io/ ) which is at least as niche as Scrabble, and they seem to be doing well. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Four player games against bots at https://colonist.io/ . TBH, the games would go a lot faster if the bots were faster. Source: over 1 year ago
Does anyone play colonist.io? I play cities and knights on there all the time and love it. Always looking for people to play with!!! Source: over 1 year ago
I play on the appstore version but every now and then I do use colonist.io! And that is good to know, I wish I added it as an activity but I do hope to find a place to talk about it in my secondaries where applicable. Source: almost 2 years ago
The Paired Players system was introduced when they added 5-6 player support to Catan Universe (though a version did exist in Starfarers, prior). It is intended to replace the old Special Building Phase. As for why, I can only guess. But I suppose they deemed old SBP too clunky to implement online (though colonist.io managed). Paired Players I think was meant to speed things up. Source: almost 2 years ago

Solves for the case here (on who's winning) Also, please take a look at the 3rd and 4th places - cities are the tiebreaker. I wonder if colonist.io or catan has set rules on how to do a tiebreaker. Is it available for us to access? I play games in series with my folks, and we rank each player in each of the games to decide the overall series winner. Tie breakers matter! I used to agree with you. In person we played the 5-6 player map with 3-4 players. It felt good not having to run into each other. Now that I play colonist.io I have learned to love the smaller map and how much deeper the game becomes on how you play. You will pick sub-optimal plays purposely to block others. Working with others becomes way more important. Hiding your strength is important. With too large of a map... Source: almost 2 years ago
I really wish colonist.io had Knights & Cities and Seafarers. Source: almost 2 years ago

Why is the colonist.io iPad/ios app so bad? Source: almost 2 years ago
You can make it like that a the AI takes over the player who left (quit, crashed, etc). And also use the AI based on ELO level so it wouldn't be too hard. That way you still continue without a huge penalty. Yes you would still be in a disadvantage but it wouldn't be that big. You can also make it like that a player who left, could take over the AI again. (For example: colonist.io has a system like that which works... Source: almost 2 years ago

With colonist.io too you can set a turn timer. If I'm playing with friends we like playing on fast, which is 1 minute per turn (but you get more time the more things you do - like successfully trade, build roads, buy dev cards). just the fact the timer is there helps people focus when its their turn.
