  • How do you PRO guys backup?
Favourite tool - Bombich Carbon Copy Cloner https://bombich.com/ Spent too many hours trying to fix broken TM backups to trust it and newer OS versions have no verification option or user API documents... Source: 4 months ago
  • Attemping to upgrade internal ssd by cloning internal ssd through 'restore' in DiskUtility. It's not letting me click the drop down in "restore from". Any help to move forward?
I would forget about using the Disk Utility Restore function and download a 30 trial copy of Carbon Copy Cloner which can clone your internal SSD to the new external one. Just be advised you will need to use the Legacy option to make the clone since the default CCC cloning function now is “Data Only”. To select the legacy option Click on the Destination selector and choose "Legacy Bootable Copy Assistant". Source: 9 months ago
  • Best checksum program for Mac
If you're willing to switch programs, I believe Carbon Copy Cloner does verifications as well. Source: 9 months ago
  • ThinMachine – A $25 Thin Client macOS Time Machine Appliance
My advice to retain your sanity: stop using Time Machine and use Carbon Copy Cloner [0] instead. It works. It keeps working. It has excellent documentation for any possible backup and restore cases. It is transparent about what it is doing. Time Machine works fine until it doesn't. And it won't tell you that a backup is broken until you try to restore from it. The errors are going to be cryptic. There is going to... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Clone Mac SSD for Backup
Its not free but I would use Carbon Copy Cloner from bombich.com - been a user for many many years and always found them helpful when I've had issues. Source: 10 months ago
  • Moving to a new SSD
It's best to copy from drive to drive your folders using a backup utility that can be set to verify that the files have indeed copied exactly as they should at the destination. Get a trial of Chronosync or Carbon Copy Cloner to do that. Chronosync can even be set to verify already copied files, while you have to copy the files from scratch with Carbon Copy Cloner. You have to explicitly set this option in... Source: 10 months ago

  • I need to copy one external TB3 drive to another external TB3 drive. The system drive is not involved. Just moving my external audio files to a larger drive. Is there an app I should use to do this? Copy all and drag and drop?
Carbon Copy Cloner. It’s easy to use and works. 30 day free trial. It’s worth buying though. https://bombich.com/. Source: 11 months ago
  • Potential New User: Massive Install Issue…Help needed!
You first need to complete a full backup to an external disk, either using Time Machine or, better: Carbon Copy Cloner — ideally two separate full backups. After all the data, apps and settings are erased and you complete any pending macOS updates you can use the apple Migration Assistant which will restore your data and settings from your backup disk. Important: do NOT select to restore Applications. Source: 11 months ago
  • Disk space already full system data taking a whole chunk??
Get a blank drive that can hold all the data you're backing up (the totla of all the drives you want to back up) - make a folder on it for each drive you'll back up. Get a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner and set up a backup task for each drive, and direct it to backup to those folders (like, you have an SSD called "media", make a "media" folder on your backup drive and direct CCC to put its backups there. • Looking for suggestions of backup software
I use Time Machine for my startup volumes but use Carbon Copy Cloner for everything else. I've relied on CCC for going on two decades, I think. It's fantastic; solid as a rock and worth every penny. Lots of free updates. Source: 12 months ago
  • Is there a way to backup my External drive
Carbon Copy Cloner will do as good a job as anything available to try and get your files from one external disk to another - if it can. It ought to be able to skip anything unreadable and perform tests and retries where necessary. Source: 12 months ago
  • Backing up multiple Macs & Linux to a single network drive using a Pi?
For full control of Mac backups look to https://bombich.com and the Carbon Copy Cloner software - you can control this way better than TM AND the data is stored as flat files unlike TMs database structure so any corruption on the disk has less impact. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Carbon Copy Cloner "best" external hard drive for daily backups?
"Best" is relative but I'm looking for an external hard drive to make daily full backups of MacbookPro with Carbon Copy Cloner https://bombich.com/, you know like time machine but using CCC due is far superior than time machine. Source: about 1 year ago

  • Best way to copy my external hard drive?
Next, you'll need software. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make exact copies of my computer as backups. SuperDuper! Is another cloner that I've used in the past. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Time Machine backups: HFS+ network drive 24/7 or removable USB APFS weekly?
If you have another backup strategy, which most users would advise, such as another external hard drive and either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, then maybe you could do sporadic TM. Source: about 1 year ago
