Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about Amazon Video Direct and what they use it for.
  • Selling my movie on YouTube?
I don't think it's possible on YouTube. You CAN do this on Amazon however: https://videodirect.amazon.com/home/landing. Source: 11 months ago
  • Inside the Firing of Victoria Alonso: Her Oscar-Nominated Movie ‘Argentina, 1985’ at Center of Exit
It's not that difficult to get films distributed through Amazon. It didn't mean she worked for them. It wasn't even produced by Amazon. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Film to potentially be released on Amazon Prime?
Amazon does have a program where independent films can end up on the platform, but it isn't Amazon "buying" the project in any way. It's called Prime Video Direct and it lets independent film makers put their stuff on Amazon and Amazon takes a cut of any revenue generated. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Why 4K when providers are 1080p
Ah. That's for "Prime Video Direct", which appears to be a program for indie filmmakers to submit their content: https://videodirect.amazon.com/home/landing. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Where is Netflix Getting These Horror Movies!
Amazon Prime is even worse. There are some janky-ass movies on there since anyone can upload a movie. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • A film I wrote was just released on Amazon Prime!
Unlike netflix/other big streaming services, amazon lets people upload their own content to the platform and make a (scant) profit through prime video direct. There are some hoops to jump through still, so the uploading process is more complex and than, say, youtube's, but it also comes across as more professional/impressive as it's on a paid SVOD service - and amazon gives out bonuses to direct films that do... • Amazon to buy MGM Studios for $8.45 billion
There's some merit to this, Amazon will almost certainly control the majority of views of MGM movies. Main difference is, movie theaters are hard to build, and in the old system, Paramount theaters only showed Paramount movies, so it was extremely hard for indie movies to be shown anywhere. Amazon shows way more content now than Amazon Studios productions (and allows literally anyone to self-publish a movie on... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • I produced an upcoming Amazon Prime docuseries about the aircraft maintenance industry AMA
I'm not OP, but for what it's worth, essentially anyone can submit content to Prime via Prime Video Direct. A lot of Indie producers play this game where they boast "it's a Prime series" or "Prime movie" even though they just went the direct route and it carries no prestige whatsoever.
