Keywords Everywhere

You may be thinking to yourself well that's it right? I know what works and what doesn't, well not exactly because you don't just want to copy everything your competition does or you'll be competing with them all the time and that's a losing battle for most small stores. So step 2 is I cross reference it with another tool called keywords everywhere. As I mentioned this tool can be similar to Ahrefs as you can scan sites with it: however, I use it for a different purpose which is providing me unique alternatives to certain keywords which once again gets the ball rolling for ideas and potential spin offs of my competitors keywords that might be less competitive and even more beneficial because once again we don't always want to compete with the titans of an industry if we don't have to.

Ahrefs

When I start my keyword process I never just want to spitball keywords and throw out things that I think work, sure this might work 1/1000 times but ultimately you want some sort of guide when starting out, and what better guide than the most successful companies in your industry. So I would start by Googling whatever product ot service you offer and see who comes up first in your industry on Google then go into their site and scan the pages and content. Now when I do my scans I use a site called Ahrefs which will tell me all the keywords and positions that my opposition ranks for and from there I can begin to see what does or doesn't work for them. I will say just as a warning that their pricing isn't very beginnner friendly but the second tool I'll post is a lot more affordable, but obviously comes with a little more work so pick and choose at your own desire.
