Regarding 2, the vanilla FFXIV client doesn't use sockets for IPC, so you're right about one thing -- it shouldn't be talking to localhost. The only reasonable explanations I can come up with are: mods, malware, or misinterpretation. I don't mean to insinuate anything, but before we go chasing after ghosts, I just want to make sure that we have accurate information. Are you sure it has an open localhost socket? Where is that information coming from? There's more than one tool for the job, but on Windows, I'd recommend using TCPView or Process Explorer (right-click process, TCP/IP tab). On mac, you can use lsof -Pi TCP.
