Wind and weather forecast for kiters, surfers, pilots, sailors and anyone else.

Sorry for my ignorance, but can some one explain why windy.com's wind speeds(ECMWF model) at surface level only say roughly 40 mph winds in cape coral and northpoint(Screenshot taken wednesday 4pm), when hurricanes have much higher forecasted winds?

Also known by the name of NOAA, The National Weather Service is an official weather forecasting service working under the supervision of the Federal Government of the United States.

Also look at https://weather.gov for the local forecasts, instead oh NHC. Then check back in the morning. I'd take I-85 instead of I-95, but you never know. Gaston in 2004 came ashore in SC and the worst damage in Virginia was in Richmond.

This is my preferred app - it fully matches Radarscope now- and exceeds it in features nowadays. Honorable [paid] Mention: Radarscope -This app is famous among storm chasers for it's Level 2 feeds and polished display- but the app is NOT free. It is considered the current gold standard because it also has a full range of level 2 and 3 products, so I am mentioning it. Having used both WXand Radarscope frequently- they are both exceptional.

The Weather Channel and weather.com provide a national and local weather forecast for cities, as well as weather radar, report and hurricane coverage

My partner is in Orlando and I was supposed to be but my repeated attempts at booking flights were all cancelled the past few days (mechanical issues first, hurricane second). There are currently 8 warnings/watches for Orlando on weather.com, but that's not uncommon for a situation like this. Tornado watch, flood warning, hurricane warning. Biggest threat is probably power outages if he's inside a well built home and not right next to one of the freshwater sources. Best wishes for you both.
