OpenVPN Gateway working for containers but not other devices

I have a container running openvpn client connecting to mullvad. I found some iptables rules to setup for ip forwarding, so I can essentially point any other containers (via soley changing their gateway) to this container and have that traffic routed through it. So far it appears to work for all the containers, with a simple test of using curl on ifconfig.me.

The problem is when I attempt to swap the gateway ip on another device, to said container (the vpn gateway), and do a ping on google.com, I don't get a response. The error is roughly to do with routing. I know nothing of routing - But I am curious why the containers all work when tunneled through the gateway, but when I attempt to do this with another device (like my laptop or desktop), I am not getting internet connectivity. I can, however, ping the LAN.
