Moved into a house with an interlogix NX4 system - need advice on if I should upgrade or use the existing system

I called the security company who installed it and got a quote for $45 to add a cellular module with alarm.com integration and a new backup battery (current one is shot) and then $40/mo for monitoring. This is actually pretty attractive pricing but the last homeowners finished the basement after the system was installed many years ago and there are some big windows in the basement that are not part of the alarm system. I asked about including them and they said the system cannot be expanded with wireless sensors - for that I would have to upgrade. That's a little confusing bc I am pretty sure I see wireless modules on the internet.

How hard of a DIY is this? I am fairly tech savvy. I was considering going with something like konnected.io as well.
