  1. Tdarr is a media transcoding tool that lets you automate media library transcode processing.
For 1080p/DVD's pretty much any optical drive will get the job done. For 4K discs, look into the suggestions in this MakeMKV forums thread. That leads into the software side of things, since you can use MakeMKV to copy the disc to your computer. Some people also use HandBrake or similar tools to compress the video, since 1080p discs can get over 30GB, and 4K discs easily reach the 60-70GB range. There are also automated system like Tdarr, or you could use FFmpeg directly if you like command line tools (and is what HandBrake/most tools run on top of).

Media player and media server with subtitles and wide codec support.
There are two kinds of Atmos, the kind streaming services use that's backed by the lossy Dolby Digital+ codec (E-AC3), and the kind discs use, which is backed by the lossless TrueHD codec. Most new midrange+ TV should support E-AC3 with Atmos, but I don't know of any that support TrueHD passthrough if it originates from the TV itself. If you're ripping disc Atmos, pretty much your only option is the Shield. Xbox also supports TrueHD passthrough, but many say that consoles in general (both Xbox and PS4/5) don't make great clients overall. AppleTV 4K combined with Infuse Pro can decode TrueHD to a bitstream and send it to your receiver, but that loses Atmos metadata. The desktop apps (e.g. Plex HTPC) can also pass through TrueHD, but I don't think it supports Dolby Vision at all, and even HDR can be hit or miss.
