MyAnimeList

New anime is released 4 times/year, in January, April, July, and October. Many anime websites like http://livechart.me and http://myanimelist.net will list these anime prior to their release. I read the synopses for them and then mark them as 'Plan to Watch' on MyAnimeList (MAL), so that when the come out I get a notification and can try them.

For anime that's already out but I haven't seen, there are several ways of finding them. Many anime sites like MAL or http://anidb.net will have some kind of recommendation section. So I can search for an anime that I like and be shown similar anime that I might also enjoy. There's also anime that I just hear about by being in places where people talk about anime. Maybe I see a post on Reddit talking about how good Ghost in the Shell is or a friend mentions that they've recently been watching an anime called GATE. If it sounds interesting, I'll maybe check it out.
