What are the best free pc games no one talks about?

Tales of Maj'Eyal - I don't know a huge about about this one other than that it has an overworld and a lot of races and classes to choose from. I never got into it despite it having a large amount of polish for a traditional roguelike.

Winning will probably require you to read spoilers, so avoid this game if you want something that holds your hand. The object of the game is to dive into the Dungeons of Doom and try to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor for your god. Starsector

I've not played Endless Sky or even Escape Velocity Nova but if my understanding of what type of game these are is right, also check out Starsector if you don't mind dropping some coin. Excellent top-down space trading/combat game that's been in solo-dev for a decade (but is eminently playable, hugely moddable, and just a damn fine game).
