I disagree. OP may have felt this was normal behavior to share salary info or felt pressured to share. It is NOT normal behavior to share salary info. Especially if you get an inkling of disparity among friends. The only benefit is to use other peoples salary info to try and negotiate BETTER salary for yourself and there are other better ways to do that (i.e. salary.com, glassdoor.com, payscale.com) that has a larger pool of people that provided salary info in an anonymous way. Removing this advantage leaves no reason to share your salary.
