New to 3D printing - Any tips on where to start, materials to buy, learning sources, etc?

Thingiverse Autodesk Tinkercad
  1. Thingiverse.com is the place to share digital designs for fabricating real, physical objects.
You can download a crap tonne of things from thingiverse.com or create your own at tinkercad.com. Once you have an *.STL file, the common 3d file format, it needs to be 'sliced' for your specific machine. Open Cura, fill in the details and settings for your machine (can be found easily on Google), but are close to (if not exactly) 0.4mm nozzle, 120mmx120mmx120mm bed size. The right side menu is your fine tuning settings. Basically, try the standard first, then fuck with them depending on your results. Click slice, then save it to your desktop. The ability to save it directly to your microSD is there when it's plugged in, but that can fail often enough that it's not worth it. Copy the *.gcode to your microSD, then put the card in your printer (right side, near bottom).
