IWMN have deals with practically everyone and a very broad set of TLDs, a functional UI and UX, and a rudimentary API - but have been stagnant on features for many years. I think their star dev left, maybe, and the company's been coasting since. It's still good on pricing and scale though. I keep an account because I have a .gs and almost nobody else handles that.

Choices really do depend on what you actually want out of a registrar. For example, if loads of rich automation is your thing dnsimple are great. Or you can pick someone cheaper but use cloudflare for your actual records, since CF have a fantastic API, crazy fast propagation, and integration with the rest of their ecosystem - at the cost of having an extra account, extra complexity, etc. Cloudflare are themselves also a registrar, although their TLD list is pretty limited at post time (and for the last few years).
