OpenVPN

My VPN server uses Open VPN and it currently runs on a Synology NAS, but it used to run on a Raspberry Pi and that is what I would recommend. Others will recommend Wire Guard, and that is also a good option.

NordVPN

There are two strategies. The first is to purchase a subscription to a commercial VPN like Nord or Proton. They give you an app to install and they run a bunch of servers around the world that you can connect to. For various reasons I do not recommend this strategy.
