Avionic advances - I have another friend who has a pilots license and flies small prop planes, and he's all excited about these vertical EV planes, things like Lilium - https://lilium.com/. Granted, he's been saying these are two years away for the past 5 years or so, but once these get the green light they can be big changers. In short, they are EV planes (quiet) that take off and land vertically (no need for a runway) and cost much less per flight hour than a helicopter.
