ST - Simple Terminal

I would suggest looking into st. You need to build your own version though with whatever patches you want, but it's very configurable, and it's super fast. I would also suggest you let it handle only things actually related to terminal rendering and support, e.g. As I mentioned above I don't even have scrollback in st (there is a patch for it though), instead I let tmux handle the scrollback and st just handles the more terminally things.
