Is that home for sale? What is it worth? Where can I find foreclosures? Stop wondering!

In the next few years my partner and I will be ready to buy our first house (and homestead). Depending on the way things go, we may end up living in a more rural area. My question is, are there any resources that you have used to find houses/property to buy/rent? (I'm including renting because we will likely rent in the area we move to before buying to get to know the area.) Currently, I've mostly used apartments.com to look for rental apartments/homes and zillow.com / realtor.com to look at places to buy, but wondering if I'm missing anything. We're based in the US, but please provide answers for the rest of the world in case anyone else has the same question. Thanks!
