Subshifter helps you shift the timestamps of an srt movie subtitle file.
The difficulty begins if all the subtitles on OpenSubtitles.com don't align correctly with your video. Then you have to manually adjust your subtitles to compensate for differences in timing. Blarg! This is a process in and of itself, and I can give you tips if you are interested. Still, essentially you need to notate the differences between where a subtitle appears in the film vs. The location it appears in your subtitles file. I then use a free online tool, Subshifter, to make any adjustments. While relatively simple, it can be a little confusing adding and subtracting time.

<strong>VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.
For all us purists, who prefer soft subtitles and the flexibility it affords, it gets somewhat trickier. Subtitles exist for almost all movies and television shows on the internet. They are actually reasonably easy to add to your videos if your video matches the subtitle file's timing. The tool I use is a free extension of VLC called VLsub. It allows you to search OpenSubtitles.com, select, download, and try soft subtitles all in one process. If the downloaded subtitle is not synced, try another. The subtitle is downloaded as an SRT (SubRip Subtitle) file in the same place as your video.
