Well, the game is old enough that people are making their own Cube World. Check out Veloren, it's basically an open source cube world project. It's still early in development but what's there is really good.

Hytale

I'd also suggest keeping an eye on Hytale. Though it's more being made as a "Minecraft 2" kind of thing I do still see some overlap.
