Text-to-HTML conversion tool/syntax for web writers, by John Gruber
Atom. It's a free text editor for programmers, but it understands markdown. Markdown is like minimal style information. Your files remain plain text, readable by anything, but if you put them through a markdown processor you get html, which can then be easily put into an EPUB or copy pasted from a browser into word or what have you if you want to do that. Atom has a file browser that ultimately works as well or better than Scrivener's for me.

At GitHub, we’re building the text editor we’ve always wanted: hackable to the core, but approachable on the first day without ever touching a config file. We can’t wait to see what you build with it.
