A degoogled smartphone....is possible!

LineageOS GrapheneOS
  1. Operating system for smartphones and tablet computers, based on the Android
This is nothing new or revolutionary, and you don't have to buy a new phone for it. /e/ is nothing more than LineageOS with a different skin (which isn't material/stock-ish), some apps they developed and delayed security updates. Just like Lineage, they also leave the bootloader unlocked, which makes your system less secure than if you'd run stock. If you're planning on getting a new smartphone anyway, I'd highly recommend buying a Google Pixel. You get the cleanest and most "private" (as in only one party gets all your data) stock Android ROM and first access to security updates. Plus ironically, Google Pixels are the only devices that allow you to flash a different ROM onto the phone and re-locking the bootloader, keeping your device secure. Check out CalyxOS for a user-friendly ROM with a lot of great preinstalled apps & a backup solution that doesn't require a cloud or GrapheneOS if you want a more hardened approach.
