    Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share research.

    This is a little more specific, but if you write papers a lot as part of your work/school, Zotero can save you a ton of time (and errors) by auto-generating a bibliography. You can add articles from the website that they're on automatically, and then they're just in your library, where you can search for them based on whatever you remember about the title/authors/etc. :).

    I've found Trello helpful for planning out work, but for a long time I didn't use it because it was way too free-form. Then I worked on a team that used Scrum, which introduced me to a "system" of using it... Now I find Trello immensely useful!
