Is Setting Up a VPS Worth It?

Certbot Caddy

Quite a lot. If you’re setting up a VPS for the first time, expect to spend a few days learning through trial and error. Are you serious? Literally all of the things this guy talks about are done for you in the documentation for each of these pieces of software. RTFM. Read a man page for goodness sake. You'll learn how to do these things once, and never think about it again. It's not hard. Was tying your shoes hard to learn, or do you still use velcro? In order from the article: * SSH: There are too many sources on how to manage SSH connections now: GitHub even holds your hand. You don't even need to read the man pages a majority of the time because there are so many high quality articles on GitHub alone. You'll only need manpages for more advanced usage. * ufw: No idea why you're touching this, most of the time you will never need to. * NGINX: http://nginx.org/en/docs/beginners_guide.html Literally a beginners guide. * Certbot: https://certbot.eff.org/ You cannot get any lazier. They have commands right on the front page. * venv: https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/venv.html * systemd.service: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.service.html#Examples Come on. Really? The industry has this stupid problem where we don't point enough noobs to documentation or man pages. Just RTFM, you'll be fine. And once someone has taught you how to RTFM and how to think about if you need to learn something, R'ing the FM, you'll be head and shoulders above everyone else.
