You could start journaling on 750words.com (assuming that the site is still up and running). At least when I was using I for journalling, you could password protect whatever you're writing. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Show HN: Write 500 Words a Day
Great idea. Looks good. It's always great to develop something for your own use. Years ago I used a similar site: https://750words.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Software or website with badges like Nano
I don’t think they’re free (anymore) but there are definitely badges and gamification happening 750 words 4 the words. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Tips for actually finishing a novel
It also helps to write regularly and make it part of your routine. My goal is to write something every day. I don't always write a lot; some days it's less than 100 words, but usually it's more than that. On good days, I write several thousand words. This year, I started keeping track of my daily word count to hold myself accountable, and that has helped me stay inspired and be more productive. I use... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Dear writers who didn't/don't have a "natural talent" for writing: How do you go from a trash draft to something worth reading?
It really, really just boils down to practice. Reading a lot helps with that practice, as you get to see writing in good use. But any talent you want to develop just takes time and effort. No one is born with 'natural talent' and I will 100% admit that most of my 'talent' stemmed from being taught to read before I even went to kindergarten(My 3 year older brother had a hard time learning to read, so my mom taught... • 40 useful productivity websites - places to find productivity tools ranked by user votes, Feign importance at your job with repeating app sounds, hide embarrassing notifications
Https://750words.com - The idea is that if you can get in the habit of writing three pages a day, that it will help clear your mind and get the ideas flowing for the rest of the day. Unlike many of the other exercises in that book, I found that this one actually worked and was really really useful. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Do you hate vulnerability and not being understood like me?
Ways to deal with it, as you asked: 1) Write a shit ton. You need to get the (dark) thoughts out, out, out. I recommend 750words.com. First thing you do after you open your eyes, type a shit ton and don't stop. If you prefer longhand, that's even better, 3 pages, also called "morning pages.". Source: almost 2 years ago
  • It feels like I’m holding my breath…As my therapist said: I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired
3Pages or alternatively 750words is a site that covers that idea I mentioned above with writing everyday to brain dump, but they're both sites specifically for that purpose. I listed both since they cost different amounts to use. 3Pages is in French, but if you don't understand French it is okay because you can machine translate your way to making an account and logging in. After that, it's just writing, so the... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • how can I increase my writing frequency?
I use 750words.com and it's pretty helpful. I don't always write what I want to. I journal a lot, but it makes me write something. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • The need to be a better husband
As well as therapy, I'd strongly recommend journalling! 750words is a great way to just get out whatever's in your head, or you can sit down and physically write instead for ~3 A4 pages. I cannot overstate how much this has helped me deal with the noise in my head. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • How I finally get daily journaling done with a workflow on my iPhone
There is this thing called https://750words.com/ which has existed since seemingly forever by today's standards. It is a simple and neat way to introduce the habit of writing 3 pages of text a day. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • I've grown to hate writing and I don't know what to do
I did something similar using 750words.com. I write for a living, and I take on a lot of voices, so when I started writing fiction I found I didn't really have a fiction voice of my own. With 750words I managed to just basically close my eyes and free write. I actually just wrote to myself quite a bit, questioning myself and writing answers. The whole idea of a different site seemed silly, but it worked for me.... Source: almost 2 years ago

  • How do I cope with life without being able to exercise?
It's really rough trying to find coping skills to replace ones that worked so well, so I'd suggest you try a lot of different things. Therapy is a start, because if you can't run the feelings off you don't want them to fester (a lot more are doing virtual sessions since the pandemic). I've tried a lot of things that involve sitting still, including mood playlists (depression, anxiety, frustration, etc--countering... Source: about 2 years ago
  • Best product/software/app for writing a long(er) book?
Well said. I think that's where I'm at right now. New projects are daunting and I'm just trying to make sure I start off using something I'm happy and comfortable with. I'll honestly probably just stick with Google drive/MS Word and my 750words.com subscription for goal setting/keeping and get on with it. Why fix what's not broken, am I right? Source: over 2 years ago

A daily writing habit does work- for a while I was using 750 words (https://750words.com/) and it really did keep me on task for a while. Like many professors, though, I'm inclined to prefer long uninterrupted stretches to think and write - so summer and sabbatical. Source: over 2 years ago
